The Capitol City Highlanders, Austin's oldest operating pipe and drum band, was founded in 1980 by Nick Classen. The original band had 7 members (5 pipers / 2 drummers). The band through the years has performed at hundreds of functions, and has played for dignitaries such as the Governor of Texas and publisher Malcom Forbes as well as Prince Charles on his visit to Texas in 1986. The current Capitol City Highlanders, still led by Pipe Major Nick Classen, is very active in the Austin and Central Texas community, performing an average of twice per month during the year. |
